Installed a Garmin 521s with an airmar B744 transducer early last year. Everthing worked well for a year (just beyond the warranty expiration) then the sonar simply vanished. It no longer appeared on the menu chart. The depth reading in the lower left-hand corner simple had three underscore lines. Garmin suggested updating the software. That didn't work. Connected a friend's 541s which worked perfectly so it appears that the fault is not in the transducer. Bought myself a new 546s and that worked beautifully for 3 months then the sonar vanished again. Coincidence??
The 546s is still under warranty but will a replacement not likely go the same route? There must be some underlying reason for the sonar failure.
