Have a 2001 robalo 2440 walkaround. This model has the sliding door with the rounded helm above the steering wheel where I want to install a garmin 740s. This unit does not need an antenna so I don't need to wire up to the hard top. I'm wondering what type of transducer to use: in hull or transom mount? I'm not ready to install a complete thru hull but was thinking the in-hull would be nice. If I install the in hull I'm thinking I install it in the cabin area beneath the stairs. Does anybody know how to route the wires from the back of the helm down to that area? Should I install in the back bilge instead? Finally, do the in-hulls work in the Robalo hulls? Thanks for your advice.

In hull is cleanest install with no holes to be cut in hull or screwholes drilled in transom. As long as hull is not cored it will work putting it aft in bilge where hull stays in water should maintain bottom reading. I just installed one with upgrade to GSD 24. I do not do a whole lot of work on my boat myself and this was pretty easy.
