Next time you think you can outrun the Bahamian patrols. A 50 ft Nor-Tech I believe.

Looks oddly like a para-sailing boat...

At least I don't see a lot of guns in the 16-year-olds hands.

Boats were donated from the US. They are powered by triple Yanmars I believe. Boats are rough and wet riding. Won't get up on the plane if they loose one engine or drive. I think the Bahamas did the US a favor by taking these boats off of thier hands. But if you think these are bad boats, wait till you see what is coming in the next few months.

The USA gave the Bahamians a handful of these boats. Probably more than a handful. I was in Nassau back in December and they had 2 of them on lifts at the government docks.

I'm sure they're bad enough to bust those trying to fish illegally. Anything more would be utilized primarily for drug interdiction.

I wonder how long they can keep them running?

About one week longer than the warranty, would be my guess.

Did the U.S. provide the fuel also? If not, these will rot at the dock just like thier predecessors.

Heard they were turning some boats upside down looking for drugs and illegal catches like lobster. Last year on memorial day weekend they confiscated a few U.S. boats for lobster.....you don't want to mess with these guys.

They use it to deploy crew skyward for a better vantage point. Saves on having to bring in the CG chopper.

We were approached by one of these, came over the horizon and got up on us in a hurry. Actually, scared the crap out of us because we were in the middle of nowhere and could not tell it was BDF until they were nearly on us.

We had people in the water snorkeling a reef even getting a few fish--so we were completely vulnerable if the fast approaching boat had bad intentions. Not knowing what to expect, I got everyone out of the water.

They must have spotted us on radar and came to check us out, but probably glassed us a long way off and understood what we were doing, because, as always, they were extraordinarily courteous and professional.

They paused for a minute, made sure everything was ok and then took off. Definitely diesel and sounded powerful. Oh, that it could go down that way on this side of the 'stream.

As to speed, I'm not so sure that thing is so, so fast. Based on its bulk, design and length (I don't think they are 50, though), it could probably get through some seas, but in calm-ish seas, I bet I could smoke it...if I were feeling really foolish.
