Colt discontinued the Mustang apparently because a lot of people had trouble with the ejector lever while reassembling the weapon. I agree it's a bit of a PIA and probably more so for those who aren't mechanically inclined but I can't believe the price it fetches now.
I've got one and fired quite a few rounds through it without any issues. It isn't accurate for sheet beyond 20-25 feet though and that's pushing it, a lot.

Put it in the back of the safe and forget about it for a few more years unless you need to coin to buy something new or better.
None of the pocket pistols are worth crap for shot placement outside 25 feet anyway IMO.

I agree. Anything that small should be for up close and personal. Not looking to sell mine. Just glad I selected it and purchased it when I did.

They say the Walther PPK was good enough for James Bond but my understanding is that the WW2 vintage are the best. The modern ones aren't as well made. Correct me if I'm wrong.

How big was the guy and where was the bullet placement? Was he walking as if he was walking to Church on Sunday? At the 100 yard mark what happened? Drop, get in his car and drive away? ;? Don't leave us hanging

Made by Smith & Wesson now. The older Walther made models are better
It's a SA/DA which makes for a safe carry weapon, but it has a very heavy trigger for the DA first shot.
The Mustang is a nice pocket gun when something larger is not appropriate. Carrying cocked and locked in a pocket holster is not for everyone

Got it fixed and sold it.

25 feet or less isn't terrible. In a self defense situation you should be using other options at that range.
I prefer a larger round but I'm a little giant with huge hands so a 1911 works for me while I can see how it's a lot of bulk for people with a light to medium frame.
That said...keep it.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on why when faced with a life or death situation I'm choosing another option.

Generally speaking 25 ft is not really a life or death situation. It might be in the movies but not in reality.

so gort don't need to be afraid of you carrying a 22 or 45 at 25 feet?
Wonder if you would be afraid of gort at 25 ft if he had a 22 or 45???

If on my property or in my home Gort would never have to worry about being afraid of anything ever again. Who needs a handgun in this situation?
Out in public? Hell yeah I would be afraid. I'd be afraid of anyone firing a gun a me. Even Gort.

the .45 ACP is by far my favorite pistol caliber but my EDC is a PPS (I have it in 9 but they also make it in .40). I find it very comfortable. I do not find it too 'heavy' on the first pull. Though my overall preference remains for all metal pistols, I do like the PPS.

Not questioning your experience, but in mine 25 feet is absolutely a life or death situation. A motivated attacker can move that distance in under two seconds. How fast can you draw and place two or more well-aimed center of mass shots? With a small pocket pistol like the Mustang being discussed? Bet it's longer than 2 seconds... ;?
Google the Tueller drill.

I'll check that Tueller drill out later. Thanks.
I carry and shoot a .45 with hot loads and when at the range I can pretty much pick an eye socket when placing a round. In a self defense situation with adrenaline pumping I would "duck and cover" and let the situation resolve itself. I don't want to be another George Zimmerman. If the aggressor runs, fine. If he/she doesn't I'm 99% confident that the exchange will end in my favor,

Anything in under 21 feet is danger. Only half of that is 3 quick steps. At what point do you consider an attacker an extreme threat?
Time for a reality check.

Sorry I didn't see your post first. If I'm carrying, I'm going to empty the gun till the threat is over. It might be one or 10 plus a reload or two.

Yup. Not putting yourself in that situation in the first place is the optimal solution, but when it's "GO" time the gloves come off.
OP, I reconsidered. The Mustang is pretty worthless. You should sell it to me at a deep discount and get a glock or something.

Nah, going to keep it. No need to sell. Anytime I've ever sold something I've regretted it at some point down the road. It is a neat little gun however I'd rather have my P229 any day.

I'll agree with "anything in (sic) under 21 feet is danger" if you agree that 25 feet is greater than 21 feet.
Each and every threat situation should be evaluated on its own. I'm not sure I can even even imagine trying to put a predetermined "break point" on a threat situation. That's why we train, right?

He leaned against the building across the street and just slid down. He lived through it. Thats why I prefer a 45

Getting back to the original poster, I have a Mustang in stainless, which I bought new in 1987, for pocket carry.
I shoot it regularly, and its very reliable. I have Federal personal defense ammo in it (used to be called hydrashoks.
When this was purchased, it was the smallest pocket sized weapon I could find.
Now, when stating "someone got shot 6 times and lived...." Were they using FMJs? Obviously no vitals were hit....
At 25' I can stay in the kill zone of a sllouette target rapid fire. thats good enough for me.
As far as the ejectot arm, after disassembly and re-assembly, lock the action fully open with the lever on the left side, then, use a pencil or small screwdriver and flip the lever up.
Then load a round, safety on, and rack the slide. If it ejects, you'r good to go.
Note: this gun has the Colt Mk 80 action. The firing pin is LOCKED unless you have the trigger pulled back. It will not accidentally discharge if dropped. Mine is not for sale.

I've never had any difficulty with the ejector after understanding how to reassemble the gun. I also have the Hydrashocks that I purchased with the gun. Honestly, I wouldn't wanna get hit with one. I also purchased a shit load of Fiocchi 95gr FMJ for $0.17/round. Glad I did. It is a very small gun indeed. I like it.
