Does anyone know of a way to get the water spots off the screen of an HDS 8? I'm not sure what to try, don't wanna damage it. Any help is appreciated.

Use first a soft cloth with a bit of water to remove salt and other substances that may damage the screen. Then use a dry area of the cloth to remove most the water, don't rub just press the cloth against the screen. Wait until the screen is dry, then wipe it using the supplied micro fiber cloth (or another soft micro fiber cloth).

If the unit is only used in fresh water and you are sure the screen is clean, except for the water spots, you can remove the spots by breathing at the screen at close distance to add a small amount of humidity before wiping with the micro fiber cloth.

Thanks for the reply, I was finally able to try the above method. I unfortunately wasn't able to have much success. Any other ideas? Thanks for the help.

No matter what I try, the NSE and HDS screens are impossible to clean. Pure water, alcohol, etc. all leave massive streaks. I have to try the microfiber they came with and see if it will get the stains I have now off. They're not "permanent", but when i wipe them they just move around the screen.

When I got my boat it had a Furuno and it had water spots that would not come off. I replaced all electronics and got the HDS10. First thing I did was purchase the clear screen protector so that I could replace it later down the road as necessary. Just like the one's you get for your cell phone.

Wave away - this stuff is excellent. Easy on and off, non abrasive. May take 2 coats if yours is really nasty.

Glass corrodes from standing water much like metal rusts. The glass corrosion damage is permanent. Surface treatments may diminish the appearance.

I've had good results using the cheap spray bottle non streak eyeglass cleaner solution sold at Walmart. I apply it with a blue paper shop towel. Spots disappear and there are no streaks. It doesn't damage the anti-reflective coating on the screen.

If you have salt or dirt on the screen, that needs to be removed first with water.

I've had a few people mention using vinegar. Has anyone tried this and had any success?

Vinegar will help remove mineral deposits, but it is entirely possible the glass is etched.
It is also possible that if you put the screen protector over top it will hide the imperfections. May be your only choice.
