Finally got the boat in the water and fished Wednesday . . . mostly a shake down cruise . . . the only reasonable fishing day this week
The "crack" before the Oregon Inlet bridge is deep (no shoaling) and once through the main span of the bridge is is almost a straight line out . . . oh yea, the crack is very well marked and the white buoys are much closer together than in previous years. An easy trip out if you have been through a couple of times before.
The changes to the fuel system worked beautifully . . . engines worked without a burp
We lost a mahi at the start of the day and caught 2 at the end of the day. Nothing in between.
The boats around us were doing good on the tuna but our spread was not what they were feeding on . . . several of the charter boats had their limits early in the day and when we left to come in a number of them were still trying to get some fish for everyone in their group . . . mixed results for most but that is why they call it fishing
We were fishing North of the Point about half way to the tuna hole. Our spread was mostly blue and white islanders and sea witches with medium ballyhoo. Found out yesterday that the charter boats that were most successful we reunning planers down about 30 to 50 ft deep.
I met Thomas Gates through THT . . . a very nice gentleman. Both he and his wonderful wife shared the cottage with us for a week.
Sorry no pictures of this trip.
I am working on getting the pics together to show the final work done on the boat. That should be completed in a week or so. Will post then.
Two weeks left before returning home. Weather seems to be clearing up for next Wednesday.
