My 17 Whaler is now back in the water and needs to be bottom painted again. The old paint is 4 years old and doesnt anti-foul well.
Can I just put a light sand on the paint that is already on there and then just roll a new layer on?

Is your existing bottom paint ablative or non ablative
To be perfectly honest I cant remember what the bottom paint was, ablative or non ablative...?
Whats the difference between the two? The boat will be staying in the water year round going forward.

Yes. You can put ablative over any paint. You probably have non-ablative on now if you are getting any growth. I would light sand and put on at least 2 coats.
