We're going to be in Key West for the weekend and my 6 yo son and I will have Sunday all to ourselves.

We're down there quite a bit and have done every silly touristo thing imaginable so I thought we might do some easy fishing.

Is there anywhere on Key West where we can get a bag of shrmp and catch crap for a few hours without being hassled by the cops or conchs?

I'm not looking to bring home dinner or anything just looking for some action for a dad and up and coming fisherman to kill some time.

Thanks :tht_rulez:

Hog fish up on stock island has some heafty mangrove snapper. Sometimes they say no fishing somtimes not, grab something to eat and your son can fish right from the table.

X2 on the hogfish grill. But I would go into that little fish market down the other end, buy something and tell the guy you want your kid to catch a fish or two. That place has tons of nice fish, especially when the guys clean the fish, when I was a kid my dad took me there and one of the guys helped me hook into a tarpon, he jumped a few times and came off but Ill always remember that. Another area is the first bridge on key west, grab a chum bag hang it over and catch snapper all day.

Thanks guys.

We stopped by Hogfish and had some good lunch but I didn't want to be 'that guy' fishing where trained fish are fed.

We ended up fishing on the first bridge to KW. Dropped a chum bag in the rocks and ended up catching a sh!t ton of little snapper, grunts, rock fish, etc.

Even had my 'big rod' go off with a small grunt on the hook. It cut me off in short order but it definitely had some size to it. Grouper maybe?
