SportFishing and Charters Forum - Overnighter Venice, LA 5-15-12

We were supposed to head out Wednesday morning, but I got to Buras and saw the limp flag. I quickly called the crew to get to Venice to head out on an overnighter. We left Cypress Cove around 8:30 pm and go out of one of the passes because there were tons of pogies there last week. Can't manage any pogies with the cast net. They were in too shallow of water. Then, we headed to the floaters bait less. Once we got there we started jigging. Caught a bunch of football sized blackfin. Then, we started chunking with the blackfin got hooked up on a 40lb yft. We were hurrying to get the fish in because it looked like sharks were following him up. Then the "sharks" came into view and they were tuna. We started throwing chunks of blackfin and jigging like crazy. The next thing you know we a tripled up. This went on until about 2 am. We then had to get the hell out of there because the rig workers were running some kind of cable, and asked for a 5 mile radius. So we headed north found a weed line caught a ton of bait. Went to go deep drop at one of our spots and ended up with 1 snowy grouper and 2 porgies. The sharks were thick there, so we decided to try some other spots. We then just bounced around to try to dive and catch some jacks and more grouper. We ended up 3 almaco jacks, 4 amberjacks, 2 mangroves, 1 cobia, 10 scamp, 2 porgies, and a mess of blackfin and yellowfin tuna. We called it a day and were back at the dock by noon. It was a great trip. All the scamp and multiple tuna were caught on Anteater Jigs 200g and 250g.

I can tell by the pics your jigs don't work worth a darn :-)

What a great trip, have been putting the jigs I got from you to good use as well.
