Is there a working amount of allowed rear bunk overhang past the rear trailer frame? I see lots of new alluminum trailers in the 20 ft boat range sold with new boats where the (typically wood) 4x4 inch) bunks extend 21 inches past the rear trailer frame.

- is the a maximum? I see some longer but they look like they will sag.

- is it different if the bunk is metal(not a wood 4x4)

The wooden bunks I have seen extending that far or more beyond the frame are more substantial than 4x4.

industry standard on wood bunk overhang on trailer?

There isn't an "industry standard" on how to measure or weigh a boat, much less on trailer bunk overhang length.

Most are either 3x8 or 3x10. Some manufacturers use 4x8 or even 4x10.

Cypress has gotten ridiculously expensive. Seeing more Pine now....

I used 2x4 PT and cut the bunks 2 inches short of the end of the trailer beams to fit my trim tabs...
