GREAT!!! A new way to drop my phone in the water!!! YAY!!!
Seriously though, looks like a pretty cool app. I spent a few hours on the lake the other day trying to download a 5 bajillion mb pdf of Ga's regs b/c we caught a fish I was unsure of the limits/season.

Downloading it now. I might even get to go fishing once or twice this year. Maybe I'll even catch a fish and get to use it. Hey, a man can dream, right?

Cool app I just downloaded it, but not to be a dick but one of the first fish I look at( black seabass) was wrong. It says there is no season and a 15 fish limit which I believe to be not up to date with current regs.

It depends on where you're fishing. e.g. state waters in Florida, the bag limit is 15 and there is no season. Federal waters (SAFMC) the bag limit is 5 and the season is closed until 5/31. The app has both of these regulations in there.

01bigjon - where are you? Are you in state or Federal waters? Use the in-app feedback option on the dashboard if you think the regulations are wrong. I'm 99.99% confident the app is correct.

Will it work with no cell service or does it have to access a data base to bring info up?

EODContender - Great Question. Fish Rules works even when you have no cell service. If you have cell service the phone's GPS is used to filter the regulations appropriate for your actual location. If no cell service, you can manually enter your location using lat/long or by manually selecting what regions you are in (e.g., Gulf of Mexico Federal Water).
I alway encourage people to play around with the Location tab at the bottom of the app. On the Locations Tab you have three options:
(1) "My Actual Location" - this is the default setting, and it uses your phone's GPS to filter the regulations appropriate for your actual location.
(2) "Select Locations Manually" - under this tab you can enter your GPS coordinates (if no cell signal) or you can manually select your region. This is the option you need when you have no cell service. Because we have this option, it means the app totally works on an iTouch.
(3) Select by Map - you need a cell signal to use this option. If you have cell service then you can scroll around in a map until you get where you want to go fishing, then you can see the regulations for that location.
We are fishermen, and we've been testing this app for months in real-world conditions. I would love to hear your feedback if you download the app.
Will it work with no cell service or does it have to access a data base to bring info up?

Interesting to hear all the confusion about grouper regulations in Monroe County. Nice think about Fish Rules is that it uses your phone's GPS to filter the regulations appropriate to your location. Check it out - for $0.99 you can't go wrong.

JimandSue60 - because it takes so much work to keep the regulations updated, we intend on having an annual version, and each annual version will be maintained up to date for that year. But, we are working on a sponsorship deal that could result in the app being free.

Make sure you have the latest regulations. In Fish Rules, go to the
Dashboard, tap Update Regulations, and if you see a red button with
"Outdated" in it then touch the button to get the latest regulations.
If you see a blue button with "Current" in it then you have the most up to date regulations.

Great app -,very useful, and easy.
Constructive criticism: I like the fish log feature, but dont like that youre locked in to the location based on where you are when you're logging something in. So if i catch fish 15 miles into the backcountry, and want to log them in when I get back to the dock, itvwill appear as if those fish were caught at the dock. Anyway you could allow the location tonbe adjusted?
fishing-in-Jupiter
08-02-2012, 08:52 PM
MjRabs, great suggestion. You can manually set your location using the map option or the GPS coordinates option, then log your fish, which will result in the spot you set. I know we can improve the fish log. Keep the comments coming.

Do you have something to do with this app? If so, could you please explain to me why it says "Open Season" for red snapper in FL waters all year long? ;? As far as I know it should be only June and part of July. Thanks.

Pioneer180 - This is one of the most commonly misunderstood regulations in Florida. Red Snapper are open year around in Florida Atlantic State Waters
(see http://myfwc.com/fishing/saltwater/recreational/snappers/atlantic-snapper/ )
Fish Rules App shows recreational saltwater fishing regulations for state and federal waters from North Carolina to Texas. By default, Fish Rules App shows regulations appropriate for your actual location - if you are in state waters then it shows state regulations. If you are in federal waters, it shows federal regulations. So, if you check red snapper regulations and you are on land on the east coast of Florida then Fish Rules will show red snapper as open all year (because they are).
If you are on Florida's gulf coast, then Fish Rules will show regulations appropriate for Florida Gulf State waters.
Watch this video to see how to manually set your location in Fish Rules App:
http://youtu.be/ydlHyyE_nIY
I hope this helps.

You are right. It is confusing. I see now that it changes once you move to Federal waters. Good to know that I can catch a red snapper within 3 miles of coast which could be near 500' deep here in our Palm Beach area waters
Also waiting for that Android version!

This app doesn't work for me if there is no wifi (iTouch). Actually it crashes every time I open it outside of wifi :( I thought it is suppose to dowload regulations and use those offline (at least last location). Is there's anyway around this? Otherwise is totally useless in my boat. :(
