This thing is 25yrs old, mostly a freshwater life, but years are years. My trailer experience is mostly in the 1000-1500# range, so I'd appreciate any feedback from folks who know what they're looking at.

Definitely going to disc brakes, and I'm in CT so I need to do both axles

This coupler/actuator looks like it's seen it's day and a whole swap makes more sense than just changing out the master cylinder, right?

This suspension has me somewhat concerned.
At what point does "surface rust" become "corrosion problem"?
Also, the 3000# boat is not loaded on the 4200# trailer for these pics, and that looks like not-much suspension travel left to my uninformed eye.

I'm not terribly concerned about these rollers. The current trailer has the same amount. Just throwing it into the mix.

It might be worth your while to sell that trailer and buy what you want. Considering time and money and you could be close to what a new trailer would cost.

I rebuilt a trailer 10 times worse than that 5 years ago and now from salt water use it looks the same or maybe worse than what I see in your pictures. I'd say use it as is, put some spray galvanizing on the rusty spots and since your going to be putting on new discs, hubs brake lines etc. why not replace the only other component in the brake system, the coupler?

Hitch incl hydraulic cylinder, lockout solenoid $220
Disc brake kit incl hubs, bearings, seals, rotor, caliper, pads, mount plate, coated $189ea x 4
Galvanized lines kit incl all flex hoses $100

If you're willing, you can save $120 by disassembling the hitch and rebuilding it. You can get away with only a brake cylinder and lockout solenoid.

Compare that to $5K for a new trailer.
