As always, thanks to Andy for his operation, great folks at SIM!

1. I ordered my water pump kit, sans housing since it was perfect at the last swap. Not this time...appears the compression washer slipped past the stainless cover allowing it to ride into the plastic housing. Pic Below.

2. The lower unit lube looked milky and I wonder if this weepy drive shaft seal might be the culprit? Seems reasonable to think the water pump impeller drive might be the first seal to fail? Also, please see pic below below...

Thanks for any input!

Usuallt the prop shaft seals go first. Hard to say without a pressure test of the lower unit.

Did you check the lower unit seals on the drain and vent plugs?

Thanks

Andy

Went down to a local Yamaha dealer to get a Water Pump housing and ended up talking with their service tech. He was very eager to help and explained how to replace the top seals...long story short, I went home got the lower unit and brought it to him.

They threw it on the bench and pressure tested it, immediately started oozing gear oil through the top seal. No other leaks detected. They are replacing the top seal now, should have it done this afternoon.

I'm hoping the prop seals don't go as well, read the manual and that seems to not be a DIY job.

The drain and fill gaskets were replaced at the last lower unit fill and again yesterday. Thanks for the help Andy...
