Finally got to fish this morning. First time this season.
Just me and the dog, ran to gas docks/ CP area.
Finally got mine, 30", at 9am. Western side btwn gas dock & Power Plant.
I know this, I'll always have a 2/4 oz black head rubby lip bucktail w/ white shads in my spread. That bait has caught 3:1 over everything since last fall.

Good title, I'll bite.
MSSA weekend - fishing with ice man on the Arctic Cat. Caught 11 fish total, that is usually a normal day in the tourney.
Pretty much fished between the docks up to Parkers. 1 or 2 on the deep rods, three on roof and the rest on planers.
Biggest fish was 39" - 19 lbs and we weighed another that was JUST 36 that went 16 lbs...so no big fish for the Iceman's team.
Like Buckshot, black headed tandems in white are always good producers.
Another hot lure for myself and some buddies has been a spankin stripers "redskin" colored lure in 6 oz. - white shad, paired with a tony or cripple alewife on the WWWWB rod....usually run 300 feet back. That thing is hot!
Gary special made some of those colored lures, sparkle garnet head and a gold mouth. It has produced for a year and a buddy is running same in a 6-4 tandem that has caught.
Seems the big ones are gone now, but after Wednesday it should be good for a whle as there seems to be quite a few > 20" fish around. After the mayworm and soft crab eating slows down that is.
Time to downsize.

I'm ready for summer fishin.. I really want to get better at other species, like flounder.
I haven't tried the spankin striper lures. Jack Abbott (Skipjack Lures) is a friend of mine, so I tend to run his stuff (as far as local lures go).
I've got a fish pic, but a fish on top of a cooler is pretty boring, and my fishing partner doesn't have opposable thumbs, so he's not so good with the camera. Therefore, no fish-on action shots.
Either way, we had a great time, and didn't do too bad, considering I have zero electronics and have to just sniff them out..

Good job getting on the fish this late in the season, it's been a tough bite. Where do you get the black headed lures at? Wouldn't mind picking up a couple for next season.

Skipjack lures are locally made in Cambridge....would bet that either R & D or Chesapeake Classic Sporting Goods located just north of the Dairy Queen on 50 has them.
Buckshot, you get Elijah Mudder to sniff them out for you, he'll be better than anything furuno can build.

I don't need to steenkin ee-lectronics!
Also, for the lures you can order them and have them shipped (and sometimes rigged by yours truly, cuz I work there part time), by going to www.tacklecove.com
Thats the online side of Shore Tackle and Custom Rods in KI.

I don't think that Jack sells to R&D or Chesapeake Classic. He does sell to Shore Sportsmans in Easton, and to a few places on the Western Shore. For trolling, I prefer his Ruby Lips heads over the Skipjack heads. The eye that you tie to is further forward on his Ruby Lip baits. I've bought a load of his baits over the years since he opened.

X2 on the ruby lips.
And I agree w/ BL, I didn't see them in Ches Classics.
Can't say about shore sportsman, I don't fool with them.

Rob, I fished the day before you in the same area. West side in 55' of water was full of bait. We only managed to boat 2 fish and lost a 3rd though. It was a bit sporty first thing in the morning but the winds died some and the tide changed to make it a nice day.
Time to put the boards and big rods away. I'll start soaking bait until the rays and the spot show up (live lining spot is my favorite fishing).
BTW, is that an older Aquasport or Mako you are fishing from?

Yeah, that friggin wind had me thoroughly pissed. Been waiting almost a month to get home and fish, and it rains and blows a gale for days on end...
I'm pretty much done with the troll too. And that's fine. I like trolling, itch for the elusive 50, but love the diversity and fun that opens up after that season ends.
The boat is an old mako 22. Beautiful boat, and I have an emotional attachment to it, but she's got an open transom and poor drainage, so days like friday keep me home. Thought about going and getting the 26, but it becomes more of a hastle than I care for as a solo fisherman.
The new 22 (23) will change all that!
