Hey guys I have been toying around with the idea of selling my truck and replacing it with a car. The admiral already has a sedan so we would have two.

These are my reasons why I think its a good idea in order of relevance to me:

1. Boat is wet slipped and hasnt been out of water in one year. So no need to tow on regular basis at all.
2. EVERYONE around me drives a truck and is a boater so I would never find myself with a lack of a tow vehicle around me
3. Live in a full amenities condo so no household truck use.
4. Truck is $400-500 in fuel and sedan will be half that. Boat dock payment is bad enough and to pay for that much fuel hurts especially if there isnt a whole lot of need for it.
5. Admiral WILL NOT drive the truck so it creates a pain in the ass when her car needs service.
6. I do love the sedan I would be getting. Im not one of those "must have a truck for image" types.

Reason why I am hesitant:

Will I regret not having a truck in the near future?

If any of you guys have done this move I would appreciate any advice before I do something I may regret.

is it a smart thing to do - yes
will you regret it - yes, at least every once in a while.

I tried it once and hated it, but yours sounds like a better position to make the swap than I was in. Do it.

What kind of car are you considering? If it's something like an Accord or Camry I say keep the truck. If it's something cool like an Audi S5 or similar I say sell the truck.

Based on the reasons you post it seems a no-brainer, really. Sell the truck.

If the admiral refuses to drive your truck for a day or two while you get her car serviced, I think you should keep the truck and look for a new admiral...

Yikes! No shes great, its partly my fault as I dont want her to drive a truck that shes not 100% comfortable with and have her come home with scratches or hits on it and an oil change on her car costs me thousands$$$ in repairing my car;cool;

I did this a couple of years ago. I sold my F250 XLT PSD CC 4x4 and bought a car, sold the car less than a year later because I realized that I was not a car person. I replaced the car with a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, I liked it a lot but just sold it and bought another truck, 2500 SLT Duramax CC 4x4. Very happy with my new purchase and no more cars for me.

I sold my boat and then decide to sell my 2500HD since; I had only put 11k miles on it in 1.5 years, only drove it on weekends and it got crappy fuel economy. Plus I wanted a Jeep. Less than a year later I am thinking I need another truck.

Try it.... worst case you sell the sedan and get another truck.

In Texas you will lose your man card if there isn't at least one truck in your driveway. :)

But in your siruation it seems like a no brainer.

That was a good one!

I say if you live in a condo and don't need the pickup by all means do it! The money you will be saving in fuel can help pay for the boat slip! Besides, if you ever need a truck you could always rent one!

do you really save money with a sedan?

many cars have higher cost in service.. timing belts, brakes more often, etc.

My truck is gas and oil changes.

When I was single I bought a truck. Bought it so I could tow the boat I didn't yet have. 6 years later I sold the truck and bought an Audi A3. 2 months later I bought a boat, had nothing to tow it with. Figured it out for a season, then bought an X5 for the wife and the boat. Sold that boat in November. Bought a bigger boat in March, too big for the X5. Bought a tow vehicle (keeping my sedan too) two days ago.

Come to think of it...I'm not the best guy to opine...so I won't.

Let's see: the OP is in Miami, where it never snows, so no need for 4wd, he lives in a condo, so he doesn't need it to haul stuff, his boat is wet slipped in a place where there is year round boating, there is no offroading down there - so he owns a truck, why?
If I didn't live in the NE (where it snows), need to haul my boat at least 2x/year or make regular trips to the home center and lumber yard, I would ditch the suv too.

Honestly... I hate driving sedans. I would never sell my truck to go to a sedan. Maybe a sports car which provides for an enjoyable drive but a boring sedan=NEVER

I went without a truck for about 8 months last year. Didnt think I would miss it, but I was wrong. Even if I had nothing to tow, I would own a 4 door pickup. Looking to get a new 1500 now and get rid of my 2 door 2500.

In 1977, I bought my 1st truck, sold it in 1980 and bought a car, sold the car in 1981 and have had a pick-up ever since. I do not have much need for a pick-up anymore but I do have a want. I have had 4 door trucks since 2001 and my next vehicle will be a 4 door truck. I just like 4 door trucks.
