Hey Guys,

Not sure where to post this, but this should work. Well, I'm constantly on the water either surfing / fishing / or island hopping with the boat. Tides end up playing a big part in most of these situations. Obviously I can check tide charts and what not, but that gets to be a pain sometimes having to be by a computer...

So, I'm really strongly considering a tidewatch. There are many versions out there from casio to tommy bahama... Does anyone have any idea on the accuracy of these watches..

The one, that I really like the features and look of is the Rip Curl Venture Tidemaster 2.
Here is the link.

Does anyone know anything about this watch or any tide watches.. ?? I'm not too into wearing watches, so I hate to waste $200 on one... But I think it would be super convenient to have hung on the center console or to wear while surfing to keep track of the time..

Thoughts... ;?

Thanks.. JF

I had one and it wasn't accurate at all. I think that it was a Timex. They don't actually download the tide charts. You set it for a certain tide and then it adds about 50 minutes a day. I was never accurate for more than a couple of days.

I downloaded a tide app for my droid phone and it gives me everything I need.

Thanks for the reply dlevitt....

How long ago was that.. ?? It seems that nowadays they have improved... Maybe I'm just dreaming though...... It would be so oh convenient if it worked...

I have a Tidemaster by Rip Curl and love it. I wore it through the end of high school for fishing the Chesapeake and then used it almost daily in college for surfing/fishing. It's a sharp watch and the tide feature was pretty good. Every so often I'd reset it...it seemed to slowly wander off schedule, but overall was really nice. I wore it daily for like 8 years and only had to get several batteries and a couple different bands. Really was a nice watch and I'll definitely be getting another at some point. I know Freestyle and Nixon have them now too, but don't have any idea how nice they are.

Thanks for the replies guys... I thought this was a dead thread by now... I'm pretty convinced of the ripcurl one that I posted the link to earlier, now I just have to wait until I have the $$ to throw on it....

I can't seem to find an answer on this question though..

Since it is pre-programmed tides....I've been told that they only last 10 years or something. Which is fine, but when does that 10 years start and end... ?? I would hate to buy one being half way through it's life...

Let me know if you have heard of this... thanks.

I bought a Casio years ago. The tide function works on a general basis.

If you are moving around then you can have different tides as the location changes. Watch will not catch that. The tide function on my handheld GPS is better.

If you want accuracy get an app for your phone or computer.

Mine is 11 years old now so it didn't have the pre-programmed tides. Sounds like it would be more accurate though.

I have a Nixon. Really like it. It looks like a dive watch with a small dial for the state of the tide. Around here in LI Sound it seems pretty accurate for a few weeks, then you re set it.
