Would anybody actually consider leaving their homes, camps, boats unsecured in Grand Isle? Not from what I've heard...

That is sad, but i Have been down there for 7 years now with no issues. There are problems everywhere.

Glad he is alive and hope his injuries heal quickly. As for the low life MF's who beat him, they will get what's coming to them sooner or later. Also, agree with the post above. This stuff can happen just about anywhere these days. CC permit folks.....if you don't have one, look into it and be sure to practice/train with your weapon. Unfortunately it appears as though this is what it's come down to......:(

Grand Isle has been been completely overrun with criminal activity over the last year. Something is going on down there and the police department appears to be completely useless. Heard at least four dozen boats were stolen from Grand Isle in the last 12 months.

Thanks Reeljustice. I know at least ten other camp owners down there and no one has heard anything about 48 boats being stolen. I also heard they were giving away free money at the bank, you better go check it out.

Doubtful. We have been down there for many years with minimal occurrences. I'm not aware of too many places that don't have minor issues. I leave my boat from May through October. So far so good...

Don't know about the boats but i do know that my neighbors camp and my camp were both broken into. We both filed a report with GI so called police and they laughed about it. That's twice in 15 years we've had a break in. One of my crazy fantasies is to pull up to my camp one night and catch them in the act. I now have cameras hidden all over the place if they decide to come back.

This is exactly why my fishing buddy decided we needed to build a "safe" room in his camp. Two break-ins in one summer. We think it was locals. Cops didn't care.

Too bad the fellow at the motel wasn't armed, and could have gotten to it before they surprised him.
