The amendment that is expected to follow the interim rule considers making a number of changes to triggerfish management including:
· Shortening the current rebuilding plan
· Increasing the commercial minimum size limit
· Establishing a commercial closed season
· Establishing a commercial trip limit
· Increasing the recreational minimum size limit
· Establishing a recreational closed season
· Establishing a triggerfish-specific recreational bag limit
· Enabling NOAA Fisheries to close the fishery if the Annual Catch Target is reached

We target them and wax them pretty good spear fishing. One of the best eating fish in the gulf. I hope they don't screw us too bad. They can be trip savers

Not me .... They're hard to catch, hard to clean, and taste like gar fish soaked in pogy oil. Tidetime30 where did you take that video so I can avoid that area ?? Looks like another screw job is on the way

Hey Tidetime, where is that spot. Love to fish that. I target Triggerfish all the time. You gotta know how to clean them, very easy. And as far as taste, excellent in my book. Nothing like a fried triggerfish sandwich.

 They're not that bad. Actually, they're pretty good. A very good serrated blade does make cleaning them much easier.

The trick to cleaning Triggerfish is skinning them first. Then you filet the meat right off the bone. Very easy.

I ate my first triggerfish about a year ago. Delicious, the least "fishy" tasting fish I have ever had.

Triggers are probably the easiest fish to clean once you get the hang of it. Lose the serrated knife and get a box cutter, start your usual cuts with that then use your pliers and peel the skin off, then just run a blade along the back bone. The box cutter is key.

Yessa, one of my favorite eating fish in the gulf.

They are less "fishy" when you get down to those purty, white filets but they will "fishy" up an ice chest worse than most others when whole.

Easier than that....gut em, season and throw on grill...the whole fish. Skin will peel right off when done. Alotta good meat in a triggers throat/head in addition to the sides.
However, hard to beat some fried trigger fish. Takes only seconds to filet triggers to the bones with a good elec knife.

Its the only legal bottom fish we can get in the winter on the east coast:(

The irony is that in Texas, the triggerfish have almost disappeared...seemingly because of red snapper overcrowding.
10 years ago when you went snapper fishing, you had to fight through the triggers. Now, triggerfish are rare.

We see them up shallow a lot but they don't seem to be feeding when we see them real shallow. We have caught a few on bottom with cut squid. What's the best way to target them?

NOAA Fisheries Service announces new regulations to control the harvest of gray triggerfish in the Gulf of Mexico. The temporary rule reduces the catch limits and sets commercial and recreational annual catch targets (quotas). It published in the Federal Register today, May 14, 2012, and is effective immediately. This rule will be effective for 180-days. NOAA Fisheries Service may extend the rule, but needs to allow the public to comment on the rule before an extension can take place.

I didn't take the video. It was posted on the PFF by a member there. I believe its off Pensacola beach. Its a great video and I bookmarked it.
Trigger is very good to eat. Nice white meat that stays together great on the grill. One of my favs to eat.
