Thanks for the pix. When I was growing up down there, no-one was allowed on the island.... and it was patrolled. Never did get to see it other than from a boat.

I grew up boating on the east coast and purchased my first boat a few months ago since living over here on the west coast. We've done Clearwater and Beer Can Island and are planning on heading out to Egmont this weekend. Any advice? We'll put in at Desoto and head over. My understanding is that I'll head west out of the pass from the ramp and follow the coast down. Any particular place/side of the island most people anchor up? I understand the current is pretty strong here at times, but other than to make sure I've got 2 anchors (which I always do) does anyone have any other advice? We'll have three young kids with us (if that makes any difference).

mduran we put in at jungle prada ramp.

oneforUF. you can't miss egmont. look for the light house. just take it slow across the channel it can get choppy.
the west side has the most beachfront. stay middle to south on tbe west side and the current won't be so bad. it's a bear around the north tip.
we usually stay around the spoils on the west side. should be out there this Saturday. look for the old legacy sea era.

It also depends on the wind, the east side is good but not near as nice as the west side.

old drainage system for the fort that was on the island during spanish american war.

1fast6,

Where is the sandbar in the last pics?

Thanks

just inside john's pass. it's called ealanor island and bird island. gets busy on the weekends. there's usually a volleyball game going and there is also a couple that offer a sandbar food and drink delivery service.

Thanks for sharing those pics..that's exactly how I remember it. I remember those brick being so hot, and chameleons everywhere. If the seas are 3ft plus best go to the east side of the island. You can have an occasional rouge wave comes in that's like 9ft plus . Pretty scary and dangerous . I put in at Ft. Desoto. Just don't head south to quick out of the pass. You'll end up on the sand. Once again, thanks for sharing.
