I have a 1985 Mercury 4.5 HP motor. The thing has given me years of great service. I use it to power my 12' Jon on the local reservoir. The other day I took it out of cold storage and gave it a few pulls. It started up and died out. I pumped the bulb and it did the same thing. I suspect the fuel filter took a dump on me. I got the motor home and took the pump apart and everything LOOKED ok. I took the carb apart as well and other than a small amount of debris it looked fine inside. I figured I would replace the fuel pump and put a carb kit in. I looked up the parts and Mercury lists two different carbs, Tillotson and Walbro. I looked the carb over and couldn't find and markings to tell me which one it is, any clues? ;?

To help you identify and repair your carburetor correctly, you will want to find and order mercury service manual part number 90-861361, It'll cover 4 Gnat/90 cc Sailpower &
4/4.5/7.5/9.8/20/40 H.P.
Goggle the part number for the best price.

I thought the same thing Tommy. I compared the parts side by side and the only difference I could see was the needle and seat. As I can't order the Walbro kit because it is discontinued, I ordered the Tillotson. I hope this will work.
