The second gen Tundras @ six years old are getting a little long in the tooth don't you think? I quick google search gave me nothing of a third generation Tundra in the makes, what gives Toyota?
As much as I love my little Tundra I just got the news that I'll have to make room for a new passenger in a few months and a regular cab pick up isn't going to cut it.

Both Tundra and Tacoma...long overdue for a diesel option as well. A nice 6 with same power, but great fuel economy would be nice!

Funny, I was just going to say, yes, with duallies (sp) and diesels and something equivalent to an 8' bed, extra cab F350/3500.
If they really do decide to diesel it and/or give a much heavier truck a chance, Ford, GMC/Chevy and Dodge can kiss bye bye to massive amounts of their mkt share in their large(r) truck space.

Gas prices are headed in the wrong direction for Toyota to put much in to a new Tundra/Sequoia. I don't think they sell that many, especially compared to Ford and GM. Honda has decided to discontinue the Ridgeline instead of investing in a redesign. I don't think the Tundra will be discontinued, but I also don't think you'll see it become an honest HD that would compete with the big boys. It's niche is that it is a bit more truck than the current 1/2 tons but not as beefy as the HD. It's like a 2/3 ton.

I am not thinking HD 1ton like diesel, more like a 1/2 ton+ that gets 25mpg's +

In 07 they were talking about a diesel in a 3/4 ton with a Cat engine. Then the economy hit the dumper. Now that Ford has Cat and Dodge has Cummins, the only one i know is there own Hilux diesel engine which is far superior then the above, but it wont meet emmision standards.

This one makes the most sense.
I love my 5.7. It has proven to be a more then capable 1/2 ton and has handled duties that were previously reserved for a 3/4 ton.
I have NO intention of moving to a new truck , but a similarly capable truck with 25+mpg will have me waiting in line

I just bought a new 2011 with the 4.6.
Tows my 24 KeyWest just fine..and will tow up to 8900 if I need it to.
With the 4.6 I get to see some better mileage when not towing.
I like the ride and handling of the Tundras better than any of the other trucks.
Plus, fate was on my side to buy another...my first Toyota truck was a 1971....

Plenty of Japanese diesel engine manufacturers that Toyota could choose from to power a 3/4 or 1 ton. They just have to get away from the "if we don't make it, we won't use it" mantra. Remember the Toyota inboard ski boats? Epic, I believe. Started with I/Bs because they didn't want to use a Mercruiser or Volvo outdrive, wanted to develop their own...

The Nissan Titan is set to be released soon with a small displacement Cummins - there are test mules on the road right now working the bugs out. If it's all true, Nissan will be first to the 1/2 ton diesel party. I'll bet they sell a bunch!

Not me. That is crappy MPG for the size/weight truck. My Chevy Z-71 does better than 15 city and the Nissan is a 2WD.

Around 15 MPG city would be great by me. I live commute in Washington DC stop and go neighborhood traffic and my 5.7 L Tundra gets about 12 or 13.:o 24 or 25 MPG highway would also be decent.
I am, however, skeptical that the truck will ever see regular production given the current economy, the price of diesel, and the price of producing such a vehicle.

I'd love a Wrangler turbo diesel. 4 cylinder, 6 speed manual, Rubicon package with 3.73 gears. Bet it would get near 30 on the highway and over 20 in the city. I'll bet the Titan does better than 15 in real world conditions but it is tough to overcome the added cost of the motor in addition to the 20% or whatever premium for the ULSD fuel.

^^^ that has nothing to do with why toyota or a host of other manufactures don't have diesel passenger trucks and cars here. It ismgovernment restrictions that keep them out. Diesel Tacoma's (I know we are talking tundra) are readlly available in Europe. Ask uncle Sam to open the gate.
