What adjustments can be made to get the two handles to stay even throughout the range of the binnacle? At neutral the handles line up, but once you get into gear one must be ahead of the other to keep both engines at the same rpm. I had some work done on linkage a year or so ago (warranty issue) and since then the handles have not been even. Not critical, but very annoying that I can't advance them at the same time and have them even.

It seems to me they screwed them up when they adjusted the linkage - take it back and have them fix it!!

Its a real pain in the a$$ to get it back there, if it is just an adjustment it would be easier for me to make it myself. No other responses???

I have a similar issue with a recently replaced Yamaha 704 dual binnacle. I replaced the throttle and shift cables when we first bought the boat. The stb throttle was always forward of the port. I recently replaced the dual binnacle with a new one. The throttle positions are still off in the manner described.
The instruction manual for the Yamaha 704 binnacle shows four adjustment screws on the top of the binnacle (under the plastic cover). My crude attempt to synch using these has not yet met with success. It seems the adjustment may need to be made with the cable ends on the binnacle end. Adjusting the cable ends on the engine end would change the idle speed.

My 1999 Yamaha dual binnacle has always had one control slightly forward of the other. When we first bought the boat the dealer said that was normal. I assumed they were too lazy to adjust it but I never changed it since it seemed to comfortably fit my hand in that position.
Who knows. Maybe I should classify myself as too lazy to adjust it as well!!

Mine is the same way. It is not too far off, but certainly noticeable. I asked a mechanic about it, he said it was a PIA to adjust and then would "drift" apart over time anyway. Surprisingly I have grown use to it and I think it may be more comfortable then if they were synced. Stb motor needs to be slightly ahead of Port for them to sync.

Thanks, I will try the cale adjustment at the binnacle end, I did not realize adjusting at the engine end would affect idle. Sounds like something most people live with

Mercury has and adjustment procedure in their manual. I can't beleive that Yamaha does not hav one too - you mean there is no one out there that has a Yamaha manual and can help the OP??

I've hot the same problem on my cobia...I think I'm finally going to tear into it and fix it because mine is finally getting bad enough to be a pia....I have to run my starboard quite a bit ahead of the port to sync...
Local yami dealer adjusted mine, now better but not perfect.
Perfection can only be accomplished with the newer digital controls.
It can be done -- to some degree.
