Is anyone fishing the 2012 WMO? Do smaller boats enter such as 26 to 32FT CC's? I will be moving to Dover in July and would like any info about the tournament and if it is hard to find people to team up with. I am sure that it is a good old boyz type of thing and you have to know someone for life to even think about getting on a boat to lend a helping hand but you never know. I hope that one day someone will need someone to get on their team and if any of you do run into this situation drop me a PM 24hrs a day and I will be there!!!!!
Thanks for your help, knowledge and advice in advance,
Mac

So..
google.com>"white marlin open" will get you WMO details.
Do smaller boats enter? Yes, you will see 28-32 ft carolina classics/albe's, contenders and the works.
Is it hard to find a team of people? No not necessarily, but if you know people it helps, of course. Keep an eye on sporfisherman.com and here in the regional section of the mid atlantic area, you will see people start looking for additional crew for those who have backed out...sometimes youll see it on craigslist, now whether or not i would give a craigslist found tournament team my 1600$ or whatever it is to fish with them ... is another story.
Heres what I would advise, take vacation during the week of white marlin open and go experience it. I love going down there during tournament week.

Thanks for the heads up. I will be getting stationed at Dover AFB in July and will be there for all days of the tournament to watch for sure. It would be awesome to get involved but I was sure that you have to know people and since I will only be stationed there for 5 to 7 years I might just find myself enjoying it from the side lines.
Thanks again,
Mac

If you have a boat that can make canyon runs and have the equipment to fish and are daring, you could take a 24ft if you wanted to.

There are a number of ~30' express boats that fish it and I've seen a few CC's fish it in the past. I know Contender had a team there a couple years ago.
I watch the tournament every year. My parents have owned a unit in the marina it's hosted at (Harbour Island) since 99'. I fished on a 32' Albe during the tournament a couple years back with one of the neighbors my folks met at Harbour Island.
I'd also be interested in being a crew member if anyone needs one. I've been offshore a couple times on charters and on my neighbors 32' Albe. I'd be willing to do whatever needed to be done. I'll be down there watching the tournment this year regardless.
Crazycarl, I've seen your boat before, it's a 42' Ocean, right?

Not my boat, but yes, thats the one I should be fishing on. Mark is the capt. Great boat and a great crew. I wont fish on any other boat in OC.

Capt Mark won it a few yrs back. I'm tossing it around as my son wants 2 fish it since we stumbled upon a couple whiteys last summer (his first). I only pull a tuna spread so I've gotta get w/the circle deal if we do it. Figured we'd just enter the low level entries just 2 give us an excuse 2 fish 4 a week :). It's a big time party...we go up pretty much afternoon 4 the weigh in/drink fest.
