Does anyone around the Mobile area have any experience with the Simrad ap 12? I can't figure out how to calibrate the damn thing. A free trip (or cash) will gladly be bartered for some help.

Is it a new unit? New feedback?

Quite often the linear feedback rod on the starboard engine goes bad and the AP will act freaky on you and calibrating will not help. Has to be replaced and then calibrated. I replaced mine last year as it didn't work when I bought the boat. It was my first AP and I will never have a boat without one now.

The feedback is not new. Just the "brains". The guy I bought it from replaced it and never calibrated it. I'm not going another year without it.

Thanks for this manual, but it's a AP 14. Should it calibrate the same as an AP 12?

as i recall, the only difference in the ap 12 and ap 14 was the display. it should recalibrate the same. its not as hard as it seems.

Ok, what's it doing? will it accept the rudder limits"? this one of the first steps and it is usually done while on ther trailer. If is does not accept the rudder limits when full over then try inputting the rudder limits ( port and star) about a wheel turn shy of full over. Also not accepting the limits could mean the rudder feed unit is not centered, in that case it would need some adjustments of it's mounts. After you set the rudder limits, then you can perform the seatrial part of the calibration. You have to have the manual, if you don't have that, then pm me and I will email you a pdf file copy on the ap12 manual. I ran an AP12 for 10+ years and just replacedit with an AP2401VRF.
PS if the rudder limits can not be set after fiddling with it, there are some voltage measurements that can be taken of the signal from the feedback unit. From memory, I think it was about 0.1 volt hard over one way and about 0.5 the other way, or it could have been 1v and 5v? but that's in the manual I think, but I have that info somewhere if needed.
