Anyone out there using one of these in a saltwater environment? I just can't believe that it would not be the best bet for near shore to about 50 miles off the Gulf coast of Florida for finding structure and fish. Anybody got any feedback? Starting to shop for electronics for my dream boat.... (on a budget)....
Thanks!

The Humminbird unit can be used in both salt and fresh water applications. The unit will have a water type selection under your sonar menu, to adjust for the type of water you will be using the unit in.
Thank you,
Deborah @ Humminbird

I have been using a 788 in salt for a while. It works great. For me it was a cost issue as to why I went with it to begin with but I am looking to up grde and like what the larger units have to offer and they can link to my 788 with the link module box supposedly. below is my problem with going with humminbird. I am either going to do a furuno 585 or a larger humminbird.
I have been contemplating an upgrade to the 1158 or 1198 and must use a in hull type transducer due to the shape of my hull and lack of transom space. I would like to have a 1kw power transducer. The only one that i see on the Humminbird website is a thru hull and would not work for me. I have heard that the Airmar m260 can be used with the mentioned units. I have also read that those units can burn out the airmar transducers? Would this transducer be a solution for me/ would it work?

Have used a 1197 but moved to navico (Simrad NSE+ structurescan) works better for me
