A couple of buds and I headed out to the MS Barrier Islands for some inshore wade fishing action. Winds were WSW 10-15. Water temp was 75. Moon Phase was new. High tide at about 11am. Water clarity was stained with about 2-3 feet of visibility. Inshore fishing forecast was a 10.
We started at the west end of West Ship Island on the inside. We tried topwater for big sow specks, but none were to be had. We shifted to grubs and cocahoes. I started getting hits immediately but couldn't keep a fish on, save for the occasional 16-17" redfish, and the were plentiful. My bud pulled in a nice flounder and it occurred to me that I had probably been getting flounder bites and was not giving them long enough. That proved to be the case and soon enough we started putting flounder on the stringer. When the tide slackened, the fishing slowed and we moved to the north side of Cat Island. The tide was still slack, but we managed to boat a few decent fish there. We ended the day with acceptable quantity and very good quality. Color did not seem to matter at all. When they were biting they would hit anything. We all boated an Inshore Slam.

Thanks for that report Paul. That is exciting to see. I can't wait to try some of that kind of action myself.

I hoped to get into the trout a little better, but the bite doesn't really turn on until we get closer to a half moon.

I wasn't used to the subtle bites. I had become accustomed to the way your mom aggressively inhales my cocahoe. There's no yanking it out of her mouth before she gets it all the way in.

Well she IS accustomed to dealing with "real" meat, so your micro-sized bait really isnt a challenge for her......;)

Paul, we flew home today. Going to try and come down the first week in October so we can go to the Boise State game against Southern Miss. Maybe we can get together then or we will be there for a long time starting in January.
