Looking to replace my wife's Expedition with a 2006-2010 F150 Crew. Probably going to stick with the 2006-2008 generation since my wife seems prone to parking lot hazards. Anyone have any thoughts on the reliability of these trucks. What to keep an eye on when buying one? From a boat pulling standpoint I will be keeping my Dually but we do plan on using the F150 for pulling a 16' enclosed trailer.

A significant improvement in 2010 was a much smoother shifting transmission. Not to say that prior years were bad, but comparatively speaking the 2010 and newer are very nice.

Wait, 6-speed came in 2009 when they changed the body style or 2010?

2009 and up would be the choice. 6 speed and the cab room, especially the backseat is better than anything else I have every been in as far as room.

I wouldn't get anything older than an 08. The 04-07's have issues with the spark plugs breaking when they are being removed. The heads were redesigned sometime in 2007 to correct this.

It's funny that you mention this. I just had the spark plugs on my 06 changed and two of them broke while being removed. Luckily the mechanic had the extractor that ford made to remove the broken spark plugs. On a positive note, i have had 86k of trouble free miles and this spark plug change is the first major fix i have ever had to do to this truck. All i have done are basic maintenance things such as oil, filters, etc. Hope to go another 85k before i have to change them again. I paid $300 for the labor and $150 for the set of plugs.

I have a '09 Super Crew 5.4L/3:73/6spd max tow. Nice vehicle, but long even with the 5.5' bed. Also moved from an Expedition to this. To echo the above, the '09 on have the 6spd, and the 3 valve version of the 5.4L.
.Fabulous highway vehicle, quiet, comfortable, fold up rear seat w/ flat floor is huge area.
.MUCH improved tow vehicle over the Expedition due to longer wheelbase.
.Not as city friendly as the Expe due to the wheelbase.
I get around 18mpg @75mph. Not great, not terrible.
Happy shoppin g
