Just wondering.

I have always had to make an educated guess as to how much braid I can fit on a reel when the "specs" really only list mono capacity for a given weight line.

Is there any good way to convert a mono capacity to a braid capacity?

For example: im looking to get a 2 speed Shimano TLD20 and it lists capacity at 450yards of 30# mono line. I want to know how much braid I can get on there especially b/c I will likely be putting on 65#braid.

Thx

Multiply braid by 1/3 to get mono # as a general rule. 65 is roughly 20-25# mono.

If you want an accurate way to do calculate line capacity you will need the following information;

Mono Diameter
Mono Capacity for the reel at that size
Braid Diameter

Now just use the following equations:

Mono Diameter x Mono Capacity = Capacity Number
Then Capacity Number/Braid Diameter = Braid Capacity

I like this system especially I have to figure out top shots on trolling reels and such
