Dockside Chat - Who do you guys use for boat insurance?

I was shopping around the other day after seeing all these damn Allstate commercials with Mayhem, and Progressive with Flo.

Coverage for a 93 Proline with 2001 double axle Trailer, and 2006 Yamaha 225 4 stroke.

I heard about Boat Us and after getting a quote it was $2300/yr for full coverage, agreed hull value and towing, medical, personal item replacement, etc.
Progressive was about $2400/yr same coverage and at this point I was about to say screw insurance. Then I went to Gieco, they transferred me to a underwriter department that writes their boat policy. Same coverage as above plus it covers the trailer and agreed hull value of $18k for a whooping $414/yr I was shocked how much I was getting covered and how cheap it was compared to the other 3 companies I called that were all $2000 or above.


My other 2006 29' w twin 225's came out to $783/yr for same coverages but no trailer bc it's on the lift behind the house.

My buddy is looking into a Scarab 35 Cuddy w twin 275's came out to $1087/yr with same coverage no trailer.

Gieco underwrites with SeaWorthy, so maybe this will help some of you that are paying too much

huh ? Boat U.S. since the boat was purchased new. Agreed value for a Whaler 18 ft 240/year add about 60.00 for unlimited freshwater towing and trailer assist.

Try Markel best rate and covering I have found for a hurricane state.

Progressive. I had State Farm with the old boat and when I got a quote for my current boat it seemed very high so I shopped around (a little). Progressive was about 1/2 what S F wanted.

I've never had a claim but I believe there was a recent thread about Progressive wanting to hold the money too tight in the event of a loss.

I had progressive through USAA.
Time to re-new and was referred to Charter Lakes. I received better coverage and saved 38%. Progressive was 939.00 a year. Charter Lakes is 586.00.

What was the agreed value ? I got a chartis qoute for 2100 on a similar Jupiter set up....

Nationwide has always been good to me.

ACE but for a whole different kind of boat. No issues and fast in paying small claims at least (and still lowering subsequent premiums). Only experience with Geico is on the auto side, and they are horrible at claims settlement, again, just in our experience. I guess you can be cheaper if you don't pay out, or take your sweet time doing it. We use Allstate for cars now.

Allstate sucks. All those ads you see on television, guess who pays for them. The people who are insured by them. That's why their premiums are so high. The local agent is an arrogant little shit too.
