anyone got a favorite rifle range on the northshore?
i have a couple of rifles i want to sight in and need the practice otherwise
i use the indoor pistol range at bass pro in denham pretty regularly but no rifles allowed there obviously
looks like tallow creek and honey island are the closest to me but i dont know anyone who uses either one. also, if anyone wants to go and maybe help me sight these in i'll buy lunch :)

Honey Island
Honey Island Shooting Range (http://www.honeyisland.org/)
Very nice facility and nice, helpful people working there.
Tallow Creek is a little run down.
I'm there once a month.

If you can't find a somewhere in your area you're welcome to come to my place and shoot. I'm in St. Amant. I've got back-stops to shoot out to 200yds. I shoot all the time.

Honey island is fine and all. May need to bring a lunch to sight in a rifle. You have to wait for range to go cold before you can inspect to make adjustments. Bring some good spotting optics to speed up the process.

IMO, they wait a little too long between cold ranges.
Also, it's a lot easier to first sight your rifles in at 25 or 50 yards.
Great tool

I've got way too much going on to schedule a shoot. Seems like I'm living at work lately (which is why I sold the boat). But if any of ya'll want to come shoot a new gun, sight a scope in, etc just send me a pm. We can get it done.

if you are sighting in an AR and shooting the standard m193/m855 ammo - you can go to AR-15.com (arfcom) and get the perfect info for sighting in for 50/200 and 25/200 accuracy - published the standard for trajectory compensation there.

I go to Honey Island. Decent place. Would be nice if they had a longer range. But on the whole its nice.

no one here shoots over 200 yards? If so, I know of a range that goes out to 600 in Arnaudville. We shot out there pretty regular for the past few years. Fairly new, 100 bucks a year membership to get a key. We then built our own so we could stretch the legs out on a few guns. Not set up for a whole crew of guys to come shoot though. I'd be down with a group shoot though. Always interesting to see what guns other guys have and show off some of my toys

I like the long-range stuff, and am trying to get into it a little more. There's a range in Donaldsonville that is set-up for 600yds. I've heard it's a nice place, but haven't been there myself. The only downfall is they don't let you shoot a .50 Cal out there. Which is the gun I want to stretch out a ways. The name of the place is Palo Alto Rifle club. They host alot of shoots out there.
I actually just got the barrel in today for my new 338 Whisper build. I've been waiting 9wks for it. It will have a 338 ThunderBeast Titanuim Suppressor on it once all of my paperwork clears. I bought two Suppressors back in January, but can't pick them up until the ATF finishes up with the background check.

My BIL has a 338 Lapua with a thunder beast on it. We shoot that monster at 800 at steel plates. Incredibly quiet for a gun that size. I'm hoping to have my 280 AI finished next month. Been waiting for four months now, the wait is killing me.

Is he shooting it sub-sonic? I'm surprised he has enough elevation adjustment if it is. My build will be for sub-sonic only. Which is why I had to wait so long for a 1:8 twist barrel. A friend of mine has a 338 whisper with a 45 cal pistol can on it, and it's very impressive. Basically sounds like a bad-azz paintball gun. Hoping mine comes out quieter with the better can. I'm still waiting another 8wks on my custom manners stock.

Honey Island is nice, if short. I'd think there'd be something to Hammond, though.
