Hey guys, I just got back from a trip looking at Condos in the keys. I saw a place in Key Largo that I really liked. I have a few questions if you can help me out.

1. The place is on the gulf side, the community is called Buttonwood Bay. I think access to the Atlantic would be through Tavernier Creek. How long of a boat ride would it be from Buttonwood to the Atlantic.

2. Is the fishing as good from Key Largo as say Islamorada. Mostly interested in offshore, snapper, grouper, tuna, mahi etc.

Thanks in advance,
Al

The most important thing if you want to fish the ocean is how you get there from the bay. I think the access from Buttonwood Bay is Tavernier Creek or the Adams Waterway???

Be sure to check that out...

Buttonwood is nice. I have friends in there and I live less than a mile away. Your best bet would be to cut over to the ocean thru Tavernier. At that point you are right above Islamorada and the fishing is practically the same. You can go a few miles south and be in Islamorada, fish off of Tavernier or run north to Largo. All good. Also, Molasses and pickles reefs are a touch north for diving and Rodriguez Key is a nice sandbar. Everything is pretty close to Tavernier Creek.

Tavernier creek is your best bet. They have a marina with gas there too.
If you need an agent let me know, I can refer one.

Thanks guys, how about the boat ride. The real estate agent is telling me it's 15 minutes from Buttonwood to the Atlantic. Looking at Google Earth it looks like it could take longer. Have any of you ever done this route?

I run back by there from oceanside to a bayside raft up nearby BB from time to time, for the return from BB I would guess its 6 1/2 miles or so to Tav Creek and then another mile or so thru idle zone in the creek to get to outside run markers. That is using the flat short cut out of south buttonwood sound, no problem in most boats. You would need a fast boat to do it in 15 minutes.
