I just purchased a used sailboat (an O'Day 272) that has a Jensen MCD 5050 stereo. There are two applications that I am particularly interested in ... 1. Being able to play music from my iPod and 2. Playing music from Sirius XM Radio. I have a Garmin GPS 478 which uses Sirius XM to deliver real time weather. I subscribe to both the weather and music packages. Can I use the GPS 478 as my receiving device and somehow play the music over this Jensen stereo? Can I input both the XM signal and the iPod signal? If not this unit, can it be done on your newer model? If this is too much talk to explain, please let me know and I'll provide contact info so we can talk. Thanks.

In order to listen to your XM Radio tuner or iPod, you would need to connect the Audio Out from the XM Radio tuner (or headphone jack on iPod) to the AUX IN on the MCD5050 and select AUX IN by the MODE button. The AUX IN connection is located on the rear of the stereo (RCA jacks). You will only be able to connect one device at a time.

Connecting the audio from your Garmin unit to your stereo is very similar to connecting an iPod, MP3 player or any other external device. Here is a video that shows you how in detail: http://www.rocktheboataudio.com/content_html/12.html
