Wife and I have a short time frame to go. Flights are cheaper (way cheaper) flying in and out of Miami. Here's tentative plans:
Fly into MIA Fri night, spend the night by the airport. Rent car Sat am head straight to KW. (of course scooping out spots to stop at on the way back.) Spend Sat and Sun in KW, Get up Mon morning and take our time coming back through the Keys. Spend night in MIA and fly out next morning. I need help filling in the blanks? Plan on 4 hours to KW from MIA right? Where to stop and not to stop on the way back? Things we must do in KW? We are in our early 30's, like to drink and have fun. One day will be a lay by the pool day, prob Sunday after partying hard Sat night. Thanks guys!

Key west is awesome No need to lay by the pool bars are loaded 24/7 and fun to walk around and drink, rent a scooter just get lost walking around.
Hit Sunset Festival at the end of Duval - eat the conch fritters they sell from a cart in the corner.
On the way back there is a whole lot of nothing...Islamorada has some stuff: Robbies is cool to feed tarpons, Loralie is a good restaurant, you can swim with dolphins in Islamorada....

Thats to bad. I will be down by boat but am leaving the 1st. I would of been happy to take you out on the water. Have fun!

I live in KW year round my favorite happy hours are The boathouse located on the waterfront at the end of Front street. Southernmost on the beach located at the oceanside of Duval street, Killer rumrunners $3. Best places to eat Forgartys on Duval street and Caroline. Salute on Higgs beach. Best late night bars Sloppy Joes, Irish Kevins, Hogs Breath all on Duval street. Flying Monkeys same location as Fogartys.

Just wander up and down Duval and hit the bars along the way. There are some good restaurants on Duval but better ones off. The best happy hour is at the Conch Farm 4-7 its 2 for 1 (they give you a token for the second one). Check out who's playing at the Green Parrot, they usually have some good music. If you want to go to a beach, spring for Ft Zach state park, the public beaches are pretty bleak. I rarely venture beyond Stock Island so up the Keys, I have no idea.
