Im looking at a new hull with a 740s. Doesnt have radar yet. I like the unit and it seems to be much quicker than my previous HDS system.

My concern is its compatibility with other brands or even other Garmin units.
Im looking for experience with this unit and interfacing it as well as any ideas on what i should go with for a secondary screen or should i make the 740s my secondary screen?

I could use it for just chartplotting/radar, how does the overlay look?
If I did that i would probably consider a raymarine or furuno sonar as a stand alone. Which will interface and is it even necessary?

Also, I would be looking at 2009 twin 150 yams with digital gauges (command link) and would want the additional garmin mutifunction display. Anything i should know here?

There are a ton of questions in my head right now that its tough to narrow down my search, i guess im really wondering what the best fishfinder addition would be or if i should even try to work with the 740s?

A popular combo is to use a Garmin 740 for chartplotter and radar along with a Furuno 620 for FF. This esentially gets you the best of both worlds.

For the engine integration you'll want a Maretron MARE-002 cable that will plug into your Command link hub on one end and the 740 on the other end.

Thanks Jim. Does BOE carry this cable? How much better is the Furuno 585 vs the 620?

Yes, we have that cable, just search the site for MARE-002. The 585 and 620 are virtually the same, aside from screen size, when using a 600W ducer. The 585 is more pwoerful, o if you are using a 1kW ducer you'll get much better performance.
