I got a little carried away and tore out all my electronics with hedge trimmers. I installed/re-installed everything with a NMEA 2000 system with Two Garmin GPS 4212's, Two GPS 5208 (one for the tower), GXM 51 XM/Weather, GSD24 Broadband Sounder w/R199 Transducer, GMR24 HD Radar, Garmin VHF200 w/GHS20 bluetooth handheld remote, ACR AIS, FLIR, Intellian i2 HD Directv and Simrad AP28 Autopilot with a WR20 bluetooth remote.

With the NMEA 2000 system it's much simpler, cleaner wiring and I was totally shocked everything worked perfectly the first time I turned it on!
It's a little unconventional install but I thought I would share the configuration.

A look at the overhead box for the NMEA buss,

and a little closer...

The nmea buss is noticeably faster and there's room for more stuff.
Overall I lost about 5 lbs of wire, 12 lbs of components and cleaned up the box immensely.

Looks nice - I like the labels alongside your N2K series of "T"'s.

Terrific Ethan ...... well thought out and executed. A lot of time and effort went into your upgrade!

Very nice. That's some serious bling. I need some of those u-clamps that are holding your plotters to the pipe. Do you have any details on them or close-up pictures?

Those are just 2" stainless u-bolts from Ace with 1/4-20 anti-theft nuts from Mcmaster-Carr. Locking knobs from Durasafe too.

Thanks BWP!! That's a great compliment especially coming from you. I did get the special Simrad/Garmin nmea 2k connector idea from you. Thanks!!

It was an incredibly easy install with all the nmea 2k stuff. The hard part was hiding the GSD24, AP28 and there's an entire simrad system under there too. Love the new Garmin GHS20 remote bluetooth VHF and the simrad WR20!

Curious, I have the same Garmin 4212 and am looking for a locking mechanism. Which Durasafe product did you purchase? Thanks.

I used the UEL50, the older locking knobs with the bigger knob don't work as well as the newer e-lock.

Man, I like that set up. Very clean and having the larger units up high is great for viewing.

And of course thanks for the information.

Thanks! I forgot my new friend, the Simrad JS10 joystick.

Can't live without it.
