Hey South Easterners...

Maybe the wrong spot for this question, but seemed most fitting to me. Move if needed.... Spring - Summer - Fall fishing with heavy sporadic rain falls at time brings some interesting weather to anyone in the south... I'm looking into some rain gear for the boat, does anyone have any suggestions...

I thought I had the answer with softshell jackets, but my current one failed me with extreme amounts of rain...

It needs to be light weight... Breathable... Water proof... Be able to with stand 40+ miles an hour winds on boat... (Hauling ass back to shore. )

Before I invest in a jacket again, I thought I would ask THT ers.. ;?

If you're going to be going 40+ mph. you might want to take a look at "motorcycle specific" rain gear. It's made to be watertight at speed (and some are breathable).

Interesting... I'll look into it... They look like they would be a lil' on the warm side though.. Anyways, Thanks for the reply..

Softshell is going to get saturated in heavy rain... Why not grundens ?

Since I'm on the water a lot more than most I long ago gave up on the fancy GoreTex type raingear since in a month or two it's generally not so waterproof.... The best stuff I've found for south Florida is commercial raingear by Helly Hansen... If I were up north it would be commercial gear by Grundens. Neither of these are "breathable" or lovely and light weight - but they will keep you dry and last years and years. The only trick I know of is to buy them (both tops and bottoms) a bit on the large side since they're easier to live with in summer and the larger size will allow you to layer up for colder weather. Hope this helps.

Thanks Guys... I'll look into those... I'm not familiar with Grunden... I kinda figures I was looking for something that didn't exist
