Tell me about it. I hate going on the beach and see what looks like somebody`s butt can in the sand. They use the sand where they were sitting as an ash tray and leave all there freakin butts behind when they leave. PICK YOUR $HIT UP. :banghead::banghead::banghead:

The easiest way to solve this problem is this: In order for you to buy a pack of cigarettes, you have to turn in an equal number of cigarette butts, like the old drink bottle days. You'd see the smokers scratching around on the shoulder of the road like chickens looking for the butts.

I have a lady who drives by my house after her work day and throws her butt out the window, every single time I see her (so it must be happening most days)

She did it two days ago while I was out in the yard about 5 feet away from where she dropped it and I screamed at her to pick up her trash...as she drove by.

Can you believe she gave me the finger?

She lives 10 houses down from me. I proceeded to walk down there and knock on her door. An 80ish year old man answered the door and we proceeded to have a calm but serious conversation about HIS DAUGHTER who throws cig butts out of her car window that end up on my front lawn.

Haven't seen her since.

Point? Smoking is bad enough, throwing your crap all over the world is just that much worse!

Never understood why this is not considered litter. Smoke if you want, but have some class and don't chuck you butts on the ground. And if you going to, do not dump them in the parking lot and then leave you sunroof open. Don't ask me how I know ;)

Smokers are filthy slobs.

99.9% of the time if a smoker is driving or walking down the sidewalk the butt is going on the ground.

If it happens again, spend a few hours going around collecting cigarette butts from public ashtrays and then spread them all over your neighbor's yard. She might learn that cigarette butts are litter when they end up in her own yard. You might also check your local ordinances and see if you can report her for littering and have her fined.

I can't stand seeing any kind of trash on the ground, but what bugs me most is having to pick up cigarette butts off of my own lawn, when no-one in my house even smokes. If you want to smoke, go right ahead but have respect for others and your country.

Hello everyone, I smoke and am anal retentive about my cig butts I won't take people on my boat that don't respect it or our environment. How can some people be so careless about the things that give us so much enjoyment? I think it comes down to the simple fact that there is a growing number of people that just plain suck! Anyway, I like the butt return suggestion. That would go a long way in cleaning things up!

Maybe they used to be, butt check your facts.

Most cigarette filters are made from cellulose acetate (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cellulose_acetate). Depending on conditions, estimates for the time taken for them to degrade range from 1 to 10–15 years.

This resistance to biodegrading is a factor in littering, environmental damage and suggested lung damage. In the 2006 International Coastal Cleanup, the number of individual cigarettes and cigarette butts collected amounted to 24.7% of the total number of garbage items collected, over twice as many items as any other category

I must be one of the few people on earth that HATES the smell of burning tobacco. It makes me sick to my stomach, I can't help it. If I could change I would because it's everywhere.

Everytime I see someone throw their nasty butt out the window I always think "what an inconsiderate a-hole". I guess the world is their ashtray and the rest of us will just have to live with it. I hate it even more when I see people throw in the water. There is no question the #1 source of litter is cig butts. Why is it just accepted? I would bet there is a huge percentage of smokers that throw them out the window or in the water. I would be it's probably about 95% that do it. I know a few smokers and they ALL just throw them out and let someone else deal with it.

I let no one smoke in my car, on my boat, or in my house. Most of my wifes family smoke, all outside of my house. If I find a butt on the ground from ANY of them I put it in a bag and give it back to them the next time I see them. And yes, they all think I'm an a-hole and I don't give a damn.

On a side note....my mother died a horrible death @ 49 years old from lung cancer. She started smoking when she was 10 and died from it 39 years later. I've never tried any kind of tobacco, none of it has ever been in my mouth and never will.

Had a friend of mine's house burn down when her derelict son and his friends were out in the front of her house and one of them threw a butt in the mulch bed. Eventually the mulch caught fire, leading to leaves, to the vinyl siding, to the entire front of the house, to the entire inside of the front of the house.

All happened in minutes.

Speaking of littering slobs...have you ever noticed when someone throws out beer cans it's always some cheap domestic beer (Bud, Miller, Nat Light, etc.)? I almost never see Heineken, Yuengling, Amstel, etc. cans being disposed of improperly. Slobs sucks.

A good friend's house across the lake from mine burned to the ground. The fire was traced to a butt someone threw out a car window into a mix of pine straw and leaves about 200ft from the house. I smoked for 45 years, quit almost 2 years ago, but was always conscious of where my butts ended up.

I am no eco-terrorist but one of my biggest pet peeves is people that toss their butts on the ground. I don't care if people smoke (I'm not anti-smoking) but, it pisses me off to see someone toss one out their window. I watched a guy bury a handful of butts at the beach last year and was so pissed I went over and said something to him. He sheepishly dug them up and later came over, apologized and thanked me for saying something. He said he had been doing that all his life and just never thought about it. He said he would never do it again. Smoke em if you got em but DAMN IT, throw away your butts!

The people that had a house burned down may disagree with you. Their environment certainly suffered. A large part of trash is merely unsightly and will eventually degrade. It should still be disposed of properly.
