Do most of you hook up your marine radio with DSC to the GPS antenna or to the multifunction display? Mine is hooked up to my Ray E120w. The only problem is if the unit is off so is the location on the radio. So if you needed it, and the display had a malfunction you would not have DSC.

That why you should have a backup GPS (handheld or other) as a "backup". ;)
In most cases today, you can't hook the VHF directly to the GPs receiver because most of them are N2K, not 0183. ;)

I have a hand held also. Could not remember why I hooked it up the way I did. Thanks for the reminder!

Or you could get an N2K compatible Radio. If you have an N2K GPS puck and an N2K radio, then you just have to have your N2K backbone turned on and it does not go through the chartplotter.
