Looks cool. Good idea.

Just be sure to tell everyone that you are just listening and not transmitting on that thing from land.:grin::grin:

I just saw this response, obviously by this retort, one cannot utilize a VHF type radio on land without a license of some sort?

There is no problem with possessing it, it is transmitting.;)

99% of the "non-approved" installations are harmless, if you already use the one on the boat properly. It is people like hunters and trouble makers that run afoul of the FCC.

Stick your toe in the water if you want to transmit......or hold it over your drink...ice counts as water!!

not in trouble at all. As others have said, listening is fine, just don't transmit. I have one in my florida room at the lake with antenna mounted on my TV mast. Works great.

FI Fisherman for the sake of not getting the universal question rolling again yes, there a lot of us that do it.
Is it legal. Nope. But there a lot of things we do that are not totally legal.
Enjoy your radio like the rest of us do...:)
Never run over 55 mph in a 55 zone with your cart, and always use your turn signals .... LOL

what if he were to disconnect the mic from the receiver? Would that limit the risk?

There is nothing wrong with the installation, at all!

@AlexD Most VHF mic's are integral to the unit. This one apears to have remote control on it also.

You can legally transmit on a setup in a golf-cart.

For about 30 seconds after you roll into the water hazard! lol
