Never had one, but their reputation is good here.

Just bought one myself and will be installing it next week. I like the big display...it should be easy to read.

Standard Horizon has an excellent reputation....

Buy a Standard Horizon GX1700 in either Black or White from Hodges Marine (they always have the best price) Has a built-in GPS. It's a win-win. If you don't want to spend a few more dollars ($40.00) then the SH GX1600 is an excellent choice.

I own the GX1700 & it was just installed on my new boat & it's a gem. Worth the few extra bucks IMHO.

Here are the links for the GX1600:

BTW: Both units are only 3.5" Deep.

Good Luck!

I just mounted my Standard Horizon GX1700 coupled to an 8' Shakespeare antenna. The display is easy to see, and intuitive. It picked up my position fine, in my garage. The internal speaker is loud.

I havent had a chance to navigate with it or anything, but doesnt seem like it would be too bad, if needed. I like the fact that it doesnt need a functional external GPS to get coordinates.

I like it. seems worth the few extra bucks.

I bought one last summer for my boat. Works perfect. When I'm not on the boat it is on the night stand next to my bed. I turn it on when I get home and set it on scan just so I can hear what is going on. I ordered an extra bracket and plug from the mfg for about 12 dollers including shipping so that I could do this:)
