Anyone wired an amp directly from the battery? Fused of course. I'm thinking about it only because wiring access to my house/engine battery switch is a complete pain, and would require a whole lot more 4 awg wire. Would be fairly easy for me to wire directly from the house battery, to a fuse, and then directly to the amp. This is actually how the manufacturer recommends, but I've always liked to have everything (except the bilge pumps) coming from the battery switch - that way at the end of the day I hit one switch and know that everything is off.

Only downside I see is that if I ever forget to turn the unit off, the amp may run down the house battery. I guess I could put in a dedicated switch for the amp, or even a solenoid switch that tied into the house bus.

Any thoughts?

Just put a breaker in that's designed to be turned on and off. But as long as ur head unit has the remote turn on lead and its hooked to the battery switch u should be fine.

But as long as ur head unit has the remote turn on lead and its hooked to the battery switch u should be fine. That is correct. The amp will be disabled and put into low-current-consumption standby mode when the head unit remote wire is inactive.

On my boat there are latching contactors (http://www.thehulltruth.com/4470244-post12.html) that I almost always leave in the powered on state. All three amplifiers are always powered but only active when the head unit says go.

No problemo...

Thanks guys - I wasn't thinking about the remote power on lead from the head unit, completely solves my problem.

Sunday morning, only 8:00 AM, and THT has already made my day easier!!!;cool;
