Marine Electronics Forum - Garmin doesen't know

and Mercury has yet to answer.

I had a Garmin 2010C that was connected to my SmartCraft SC5000 and everything worked great. Alas the 2010 died. :(
I just installed the Garmin 740s and thought all was great.

NOT.
I took the boat out for a trail run. Picked a waypoint and the Dist to Go showed up on the SC5000 screen but it never registered Time to Go,Fuel to go.

Any ideas what I have done wrong?

The GPS data shows on my VHF radio.

I have sent queries to both Mercury and Garmin. Garmin says that because it is showing the Dist to waypoint it seems I've made the right wire connection, but they are not familiar enough with the SC5000 to tell me anything else

Well I knew this was coming! Mercury suggests I contact Garmin :(

go into our instrument's manual, look at what NMEA 0183 sentences it is looking for, the go into the Garmins NMEA output menu and make sure any on the list that the smartcradt gauge is looking for are turned on. I can't really see a 740 not supporting a sentence of any importanced that the 2010 could, but it might not be turned "on" in the 740's default setup.

i think i remember the 740 needs the extremal antenna -no idea why

flip the wires going in to the sc5000..won't hurt anything...

thats what Mercury is suggesting. I'll give it a try. Thanks for the reply. I'll let you know if it works.
Also, I am noticing that when I choose a waypoint that the Arrival time is behind the actual real time. What is that about??
