i currently have a cmd6 with 2 jl speakers in my console. looking to get a bit more volume. should i amp the 2 speakers or just add 2 more. i think the speakers are loud enough its jist that they r placed on the sides of the console. volume is directed at the hull sides. what do you guys think?
thanks

Are the speakers mounted higher than the gunwhales? Lower is better. A second pair of speakers is never a bad option, and if mounted in a good location will give you a larger stereo sweet spot and more fill. This may be what your looking for. An amp will certainly give you more volume, and can sometimes improve the quality of the sound. If you are really looking to upgrade your sound, pick the easiest option first, knowing that you can always add the second later.

all great ideas..alex the speakers are mounted below the gunnels..about 6" from the floor. i was thinking 2 more well placed speakers would be best..only prob is where to mount them. its a 23 regulatorclassic..i would like to mount them in the bow area facing the stern but thats where the anchor locker is. im afraid the anchor will beat the crap outta the speakers

Is there any way you can get a pair in the sides aiming at the helm? We allways try to get a pair of speakers in the gunnel, between the leaning post and console, firing right at the captain. This gets the best results for the most important person on the boat and really helps when running!

You can fade the sub with a remote level control for the sub that is sold by JL - plugs into amp with telephone style jack - Look for HD-RLC - not waterproof but I've never seen one go bad either...

gunnels facing in is best for acoustics. what about the stern facing forward? is there a safer way to install any there? I have no way to do it in my boat without risking major damage to the back the speaker so Im planning on putting a pain in my electronics box. not ideal, but i'm giving it a shot

I recently installed 6 speakers on a friend's boat. I mounted 2 on the achor locker like you mention, and they produce very good sound. I mounted 2 right below the steering facing the seat/baitwell, and two more on the baitwell facing out to the gunnels. The 2 mounted on the front facing the stern produce the more clear sound to me.

just my 0.02

i just did a google image search and saw someone put them in the bow. one on either side of the anchor locker. it was on a 32 tho. i gotta check to see if theres room on the 23 to do that. i think that positon will produce the best sound....now..anyone selling jl speakers?! lol
