I got a GroPro off of a buddy who was'nt useing it anymore. I dropped the sucker and now it will not power up, so much for ruggedness,. I sent an e-mail to Go Pro to have it serviced. The responce I got back was, since I did not purchase it or have a reciept the unit is not under warranty and they can not work on it. They said that they possibly could give me a 20% discount if I bought another from thier store. Apparently these are throw away units. If you are out of warranty, or have bought from any other source other than a distributor for GoPro or lost your reciept, you might as well take it and toss it. Just a heads up, I sent an e-mail back informing them that I will pay for any repair, I will let you know what I find out. Mike

Any chance your buddy has the receipt? If no receipt they will assume it is stolen. Garmin has a similar policy. Buying this kind of stuff on ebay or craigslist is risky sometimes.

This is how it works with all electronics now. We dont sell go pro but we do sell a lot of electronics and all of our manufacturers do the same thing. Dont think for a second JL audio will fix anything for you if you didnt buy it from a dealer. They even make you go to a dealer to have it sent in for warranty. I would jump on the 20% discount!

You def get what you pay for! Its a shame the companies have to be like that but they do have to try to protect their dealers.

Just to give everyone a heads up, Go Pro was great to work with, fast responce to all my questions and really wanted to work with me about my issues. The problem I do see is the one yr warranty. The way everyone uses these cameras once the warranty is over you are done. Plan on buying a new one if the camera fails after that time, there is no repair only replacement. That is direct from Go Pro.
