I had a Navionics Platinum Plus card for my HDS7. When I let Bluewater use my boat last year for the Miami show I took it out because I was affraid someone would swipe the card while it was down there. Of course I have misplaced it and am wanting to replace it. I do not want to spend another $200 on a card. Are there any cheaper alternitives? My HDS7 just has the base maps. I don't really care about the fishing spots. I just want more detailed chartplotter maps. The furthest I go offshore is 15 miles.

Thanks,
Ken

All I find on Ebay is used Nauticpath cards. Are these a step up from the HDS Base Maps? Will these cards even work on an HDS?

I just ordered this from BOE for $99. http://www.boemarine.com/Lowrance_Nautic_Insight_HD_US_Coastal_East-000-10041-001/ From what I can tell by the Lowrance sight it is much more detailed than what I have. Whether I get a new boat or keep my current one I won't have Lowrance a year from now so I didn't want to spend $300 dollars on another Navionics card.

I'm interested in knowing what you think about that chart.

If you don't mind, look and see if it has wrecks and reefs marked in your area.

I did notice the navigation details are awesome and it did show some wrecks just offshore. The bottom contour is incredible. It looks like some Google map from a sattelite. I like it better than the Navionics chip I used to have.

Joeken do your saved waypoints show when using the new card? All my waypoints were still in the machine with the card installed. I didn't look at them all but I did notice one. I even renamed it and changed the icon.

Since you posted one of the only opinions I could find on using both the Navionics Platinum Plus and the Nautic Insight HD 2012 could you also give some more detail on why you prefer the Nautic Insight card?

Thanks

I just received the HDS Nautic Insight 2012 card today.

First, I zoomed in and was dissappointed, the more I zoomed in the blurrier it got.

Then I noticed that at the point where the HDS7 onboard charts would switch to 2D charting, the new chip begin to add more depth numbers.

Re-viewing my waypoint, I zoomed in until the extra numbers were displayed.
It is really informative. the numbers are arrayed across the display in about 4 rows and 6 numbers wide. They show the depth at those locations.

The shaded relief is not any better IMO, but the extra depth numbers make it easier to determine what the bottom really is like in the area.

The contour lines don't change from the unit's Insight maps, Just the extra depth readings. Some of them only very by 1'.

I'm satisfied with the 2012 chip for now.

Still haven't viewed all the areas I want to, but I ran out of time.

I know it has more detail but to me I won't use 75% of the cards abilities. http://www.thehulltruth.com/fishing-miscellaneous-items/437264-navionics-sd-906-platinum-plus-card.html#post4729277

did my comparisons... insight to Navionics? i dont see how the insight looks anything like google earth. in fact it loses detail as soon as you zoom in and all you see is shading. then the shaded land (by the way dont tell lowrance but there are no mountains in florida) turns to a cartoonish yellow map and loses the shading. the Navionics shows literally a satelite picture, photos, fishing data, a public community layer, free updates for a year (the insight had some static old data then when you call they cant correct), my Navionics cost me $199. not sure where you shopped and got quoted over $400 bucks... theres a bigger chart at $399 but i just needed my regional area.
i didnt see any difference at all on the new insight and embedded other than a couple lakes. still didnt have mine.
