im sure this has been posted before.

what the hell is wrong with the country/world we live in? i think we are at the point that the only way we can truly be saved is for mother nature to step up and hit the flush button.

Clearly, TSA is a huge expense to this country and there is a tremendous amount of waste involved with them, but that's another thread altogether.

Shoe bombs, plastic explosives, plastic guns, hijackers, 9/11, we've all seen kids that have been used to smuggle drugs, so what else will their parents place on them.... point is you can't put anything past the "evil-doers" of the world to try.

Sometimes innocent people get caught in the crossfire of safety. They've searched my bags, and I've gladly let them. I feel better when they do a mass search right before boarding as well.

I say search anyone that stands out for any reason whatsoever, search randomly as well, so all of us can fly safely.

Was taking my Mother-in-law home to die after 6 months at MD Anderson in Houston, after chemo and stem cell transplant failed. Wheelchair bound, 75lbs, gaunt, sick as hell, they wouldn't let her unless she removed her hat covering her bald head. They took away the one thing that gave her some dignity. While this was going on I noticed they let a towel head through that refused to take his turbin off. Pieces of shit!

Seems like you are OK with the video. I fly alot and I dont ever get the "warm fuzzies" knowing that TSA is on the job. These idiots couldnt find a terrorist if he walked up wearing a sign. The little kids and the grandma searches are getting stupid

They might not say they profile but they do to a certain extent. I travelled with two guys who worked for the government of Egypt. They were inspecting some plants for export. They were clean cut and wore nice sport coats. However, their names were something like Mohammed and Siad (sp?). They got pulled out of line to the extra security at every airport. Both of them. When they got to Dulles to fly back, Air France took their passports to check against some list that they had. They disappeard for about 30 minutes before coming back with their passports.

The original post, I hear ya nate. Crazy stuff. I travel so much I don't think much about it anymore but yes they do that crap to little old ladies in wheel chairs and moms and kids.

And it doesn't just happen at the airport. It's how a lot of rings (cells) have been busted.

Actually if you research bombings in Iraq and Afghanistan, you'd KNOW that terrorists are using women and children as human bombs. And right now, as all you people rant about how outrageous this is, al quaeda is building a wheelchair-leg cast bomb and it will kill people. Congrats on making us less safe.

Funny that when 9/11 first happened and "liberals" were upset about invasions of privacy, "non-liberals" all jumped on the "Well its for national security and if you're not a terrorist you have nothing to worry about".

Remember saying that?

I didnt say it. If you think that TSA makes us more safe you are kidding yourself. We were plenty safe before 9/11. We knew who the bad guys were, we knew what they were doing, and we had a pretty good idea of what the plan was. WE DIDN'T ACT!!!!!. All the agencys in charge of our security failed to do their job. All we have done is add another agency

Typical liberal response, focus on actions not outcomes. What they did to that kid is NOT making us safer. Pulling little old ladies out of line to do a pat down, is NOT making us safer. Just like showing our license several times before we got on a plane post 9-11 didn't make us safer. Heck, the terrorists had drivers licenses.

A month ago my wife and I flew to Vegas. When we got to TSA she realized she forgot her license. All she had was a California license that expired in 2007(no idea why it's still in her purse) with different coloredhair and another form of ID with my last name(just got married 6 months ago). Ticket was in her maiden name. They asked to see a credit card with a last name matching the ticket and all was good????
I felt SO much safer getting on that flight knowing TSA was on the ball.

I would love to have seen me get away with that crap.

We are NO SAFER with these screening tactics than if they didn't exist at all. The terrorists aren't going to just walk onto a plane with boms now, they're looking at new ways to get us, and it's coming. Maybe if everyone stayed in thier homes, we would all be safe! welcome to the new face of Freedom!

I was in the Nairobi, Kenya airport last week. As you enter the security area, there is a framed photo of the "Most Courteous Security Employee of the Month". I'm going to go out on a limb and say that I don't believe the TSA gives out awards for courtesy. The Kenyans are exceedingly polite.

I'm sorry but that attitude is NOT what made this country great and I beg to differ with that train of thought. We live free from fear not because we know we are safe but because we have a "can do", "damn the torpedo's" attitude toward those who threaten us. ...... And woe be it to whoever or whatever threatens that freedom or uses it against us.

Better to die once as a courageous person than die a hundred deaths as a coward.

I'm with nate and bumster and s_ebels, and the others on this one. I fly a lot also - way too much. The TSA people and procedures are a huge waste of time. We pay a lot for what they do, and we are NOT getting out money's worth. What we are getting from the TSA process is a daily display of stupidty, and the effects of poor training. It's like a Harvard Business School case on what to do badly.

It's a pos system. The more red flags (wheel chair, canes, skinny bitches with explosive curves) that need to be padded down the more staff you'll need. This is what our gov is coming to, its too big and self serving.

While I agree this may be a little extreme given the 3 year old patted down, heres another right wing perspective.
There are sick f*cks out there who use innocent little kids to smuggle drugs and that are blowin their welfare money on drug abuse. At the same time there is a PROVEN FACT that most terrorist acts are performed by those of arabic descent (mostly muslim extremists) and now people are suing cuz searching a man in a turban is "profiling."
Word to the wise here, wake the F*CK UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE!!.
If you want welfare, GET A DAMN DRUG TEST. We're giving you tax money, we reserve the right to make sure you're not blowin it away. I need a drug test everytime I go overseas. You got a problem with a kid gettin screened? Understandable, but remember those sick enough to actually plant drugs on their kids, and think how much better the world will be if they were all gone. If you have no drugs? No problem. Checking an Arabic man is profiling? GO TO HELL. Last 10 out of 10 threats were by men of arabic descent, and the last 2 attacks, again were by men of arabic descent, so SHUT THE PIE HOLE ABOUT PROFILING.
I live in a world where the arabs can celebrate ramadan in school but kids cant celebrate christmas in a public school. What is happening

Dood. Take a chil pill and a few deep breaths. I was pleasantly surprised that the Egyptian guys I was travelling with were profiled clear as the blue sky. It was surprising to me because TSA keeps saying that they DON'T profile. Obviously they do. Good for them. Maybe they give the pat down to crippled old ladies to make it look like they don't. I don't know.

Regarding the kid being wiped down. Perhaps they should find better ways of catching drug dealers (if that was their intent), then detaining kids in wheelchairs in airports and rubbing their bodies with little wet wipe looking things. Again, there needs to be a focus on results versus visable actions.

Do a little reading on El Al and their security practices. They know everyone that is getting on their planes and they have a pretty good track record.

Well said. The government is just plain "the enemy" of way to many folks no matter what it does. And the lines between liberal and conservative are so blurred and have been so convoluted by those trying to juice us up.

BTW since we have broached the political ..... I as the O.P also don't give 2 shits about Iraq or Afghanistan - except that we still have troops there and they need to come home now . Mission accomplished.

It shouldn't be called racism because Arab is not a race. The term "racism" is way overused especially the last few years.

That video was taken a couple of years ago before the TSA revised their procedure involving young children. I doubt very seriously it would happen now. That said, I am NOT supporting the TSA...I believe the process to be extremely invasive and a violation of civil rights. Unfortunately, this is the new world we live in.

burtonboards32

I dislike TSA as much as the next guy, but i also realize that flying is not a right. If you do not like the policies that are put into place by the government that you pay taxes to, voted in, and are stuck with until you decide to pack your things and move out of the country, you have two VERY simple options:

1. Don't fly. Drive, take a bus, take a train, etc.
2. Don't travel

Blythe1022
03-22-2012, 01:11 PM
In the video the TSA officer was being a little too thorough. I think he could have done half as much. The parent's reaction should tell him what he needed to know. The dad was calm and understanding. He didn't protest the officer. The officer could have been a little more friendly to the kid IMO.
I don't like the TSA crap at the airport anymore than the next person. I have never been blown up or strapped a bunch of jet fuel and dropped 30,000 feet but I'm sure I would hate that more. I can keep all of my civil liberties and not fly or subject myself to random search without cause and get to where I'm going quicker. I still have the freedom to choose. With all of the laws we have today and the more getting proposed everyday I am waiting for choice to be outlawed.
I like what they are testing now for securtiy. You can pay $100 or something like that for an extensive background check to be done giving you access to quicker and less invasive security checks. I subjected myself to the checks for my CCW permit. No big deal. It would be worth it if I flew a lot. It still might be worth it not to need to be at the airport 2 hours early 6 times a year.

Why can't people be pre-screened when a ticket is purchased?

Anything, yes anything that is gov't run is a disaster.
