Not at any distance you couldn't see them with a decent pair of 7x50 binoculars.

Do binoculars work in the Fog? :)
In all seriousness, i'm hoping to put the same system together and have minimal hopes for bird finding.

They work, you just can't see anything. ;)
Kind of like radar and birds. ;)
Actually there is a well known charter cap who chases bluefin off the cape with a 4kw raymarine dome. He spots birds with it. A run and gun guy and he is usually within a couple of miles of the birds, but it works for him, even in fog.
