A boat that I am looking at has a Furuno Navnet 1900C chart plotter, network sounder and a 4kw radome.

it also has a Lowrance LCX-15MT...

While I don't plan on fishing to much at first and buying a new boat is obviously a big outlay of cash, I do want to have up to date charts and feel comfortable in the systems reliability.

Run it as is, or upgrade?

Badger,
The 1900C is the first generation of NavNet. There have been many advancements since this unit. However, the best advice would be to take the boat out and use the plotter to see how it works. Do the charts have all of the info on them that you need? Does it fit your needs. If it does, then your'e good. If it doesn't, upgrade. Furuno just introduced the Navnet tztouch, which is the fourth generation of the product. Check it out, it's pretty sweet www.navnet.com. But they are still selling the vx2 and 3D (I have the 3D). Knowing the quality of Furuno, I'm guessing the radar and sounder are still working great. So the only issue you may have is the plotter. If you upgrade, you will definitely get faster redraw of the charts, up-to-date charts, satellite photos and probably some other options.

I know I didn't give you a definitive answer, but there is a lot to consider. Good luck!

Justin

Thanks!

Would the original radar dome work with a new chart plotter? Any reason to upgrade the GPS antenna? Just wondering if I could replace the main screen and keep everything else?

Even those units are not current they also are still as some new systems now being used.

And that system may do extremely well for you depending on your fishing and boating conditions and needs.

Like Justin009 alluded to..try it first...it may be just the ticket as is.
