Attention all seasonal boaters
For many of us in the Northern region, we have had an unseasonably warm winter. We actually hit 80 degrees this week in Michigan and it may reach that again next week!
Just a quick reminder to all seasonal boaters who have "lay-up" listed on their policy declarations page and may be thinking about putting your vessel in the water early this year. If a lay-up warranty is listed, it is warranted in the terms and conditions of the policy that you cannot use the boat during this term, and if the warranty is stated as ASHORE, the vessel cannot be launched during this period and the vessel must remain on the hard.
Many small boat insurance (http://www.charterlakes.com/product/small-boat-insurance)policies do not have a warranty, they just base the premium on the state your located in. Most yacht insurance (http://www.charterlakes.com/product/yacht-insurance)or commercial insurance (http://www.charterlakes.com/product/charter-boat-insurance) policies however will warrant a seasonal lay-up in areas like the Great Lakes, North Atlantic, Alaska and other area of the mid-west for example.
This of course can be modified, but you must contact us (or your current company) PRIOR to launching or using the vessel if you wish to use it during the lay-up term. If you’re a Charter Lakes Marine Insurance (http://www.charterlakes.com) client, just call our office and we can make the necessary amendment’s and let you know if any additional premium's might apply to take your vessel out of lay-up early. Looks like a great boating season!
