Moving me, and my boat up north this year from north fl, have a few questions, during summer months is it necessary to always run to the canyon? or can you troll 30- 50 miles offshore and be successful, i understand, water, and sea temp, and floatsam and what not comes into play, any opinions on the matter, thanks

Welcome to VB....You will love the fishing here. Summers and winters as well are great with migrating speci es throughout the year...BFT were caught along with the winter run of stripers just this past two months within 1 mile of the beach...20 to 30 miles out is also productive, butn IMO, the canyons has some of the best fishin you can get...Along the 100 fat. curve seems to be the best whether trolling or deep droppin the edges...However, the fingers area cannot be overlooked...Quality water and timing can produce every species of palegics...Some of the best fishin is inshore around the CBBT area at the Chesapeake. Bay... It's a short run and also a year round fishery... Check out Tidalfish.com or VBSF.net for some local knowledge...Good luck on the water...Marshall..
